Luton Canine Association Open Show 2015 Critique

Thank you to Luton CA for inviting me to judge at this well run and hospitable show and to the exhibitors who allowed me to give my opinion of their hounds. Although it was a numerically small entry, the quality was good.

Puppy: No entries.

Yearling: (2, 1abs) 1.Finnett & Heathcote’s Hyndsight Because the Night. Attractive 16mth bitch. Lovely dark coat. Typical curvy outline with no exaggeration. Dark eye and typical soft expression. Good front assembly with correct lay of shoulder into straight legs and good feet. Excellent muscle tone. A little playful on the move, as to be expected with a youngster, but she moved well when settled. Still very much a baby but will look forward to seeing how she matures. RBOB.

Graduate: (2, 0abs) 1.Shannon’s Erewhon Wanton Flame. 3 yr old feminine hound with typical head and expression. Dark coat of correct length and texture. Good front assembly with correct forechest and good lay of shoulder. Balanced rear angulation with good turn of stifle. A long cast bitch but her length is correctly in her ribbing, not in her loin. Moved well but lacked a little drive in the challenge for best of breed. 2. Finnett & Heathcote’s Hyndsight Desperado. 16mth dog, litter sister to winner of yearling and similar comments apply. His litter sister is slightly more mature, as is often the case with dogs and bitches. He’s going through his rangy junior stage and needs to develop and mature. However, he has a good curvy outline with correct angulation fore and aft and plenty of bone. Slightly erratic on the move today but shows lots of promise.

Open : (2, 1 abs) 1.Shannon’s Erewhon Celestial Fire. Handsome, masculine 3yr old hound. Litter brother to winner of Graduate. Typical head and expression with lovely dark eye and neat ears. Good to see a typical mane. Correct angulation fore and aft. Straight legs into very good feet with correct slightly sloping pasterns. Correct depth of chest and good tuck up giving a typical outline. A fit hound with good muscle tone. Moved a bit lackadaisically in this class but showed better drive when he had a different handler in the challenge. BOB.
